All the bonefishing from Desroches takes place on the nearby atolls of St. Joseph and Le Poivre, while from Alphonse you will fish St. Francois.  The atolls are breathtakingly beautiful, particularly St. Joseph which is the largest, covering several square kilometres and comprising many small palm covered islands and a lovely blue lagoon in the centre.  The bonefishing on St. Joseph and St. Francois is spectacular - and the tide is not so critical as it is on Le Poivre.  The fish will take practically any fly you present to them.  The average size is well over 4lbs with many fish between 6 and 8lbs.
Apart from bonefish you can fish for barracuda, yellow spot and blue trevally (10-12lbs), African pompano (in excess of 20lbs) and barracuda (over 40lbs).  All the fishing is done by wading either on the vast, spectacular hard silver sand flats, or along the edges of these over the central lagoon.  There is excellent blue water fishing for sailfish, yellowfin and big-eye tuna, bonito and wahoo.

Desroches is the largest island in the Amirantes group at 5km long by 1.5km wide.  It is 240km south-east of Mahé.

Alphonse Island is a small remote island basking in the heart of the Indian Ocean, 450km south of Mahé.  The sides of its triangular shape are a mere 1.2km long.

Alphonse Island Resort has elegant accommodation in 25 comfortable, air-conditioned chalets plus five spacious executive villas with jacuzzis.  The restaurant serves imaginative meals.  After an eventful day's fishing, the swimming pool could be inviting and the adjacent 'le Lys' bar might be just the place to relax or, for the more energetic, the floodlit tennis court and games room will revive the competitive spirit.  All non-motorised water sports are free and bicycles are provided to explore the island.  Diving can also be arranged.
