| Bonefish, Tarpon, Permit & Deep Sea Fishing |
 |
| With over 700 islands stretched over 750 miles of tropical ocean,
the Bahamas has much to offer the fisherman and non-fishing partners. Whether fishing
the sun-soaked flats in ankle-deep water or searching the mangrove fringes for bonefish,
once hooked, you will experience the challenge of a fight that draws fishermen from around
the world. With the Gulf Stream to the west and the trade winds blowing in from the
south-east, the sea surrounding the islands is normally around 80 degrees in the summer,
falling to low 70s in mid-winter and this, combined with the relaxed island atmosphere and
well-serviced lodges, makes the Bahamas an ideal choice for a fishing holiday. |
 |
 |
| From the lodges you are transported by skiff to the sand or
mangrove flats in search of bonefish. These wary fish will nudge their way across the
flats looking for food and it is not uncommon for an experienced flats angler to catch 10 -
15 fish in a day. Besides bonefish, the flats are home to barracuda, permit and mutton
snapper. Fly fishing for permit is exciting sport. Veterans of the flats keep a spare
rod with a brown or white bucktail ready tied in case they see one. Further out, there
is game fishing for blue and white marlin, blackfin and allison tuna and the broadbill
swordfish. |

| GRAND BAHAMA |
Grand Bahama boasts some of the most exciting saltwater fishing in the
Bahamas. With shallow flats extending for many miles to the East and West there is a
huge area of fishable water, with easy access for the fisherman who enjoys self guiding and
wading these wonderful sand or grass flats.
The bonefishing is exceptional and the Pelican Bay club record is 14.5 pounds.
However, if you are after some serious saltwater sport, then there are opportunities to fish
for tarpon, permit, barracuda or horse eye jacks.
While on the island there is the opportunity to venture offshore and fish for some of the
much larger saltwater species such as tuna, dorado and huge tarpon. These species are
fabulous sport on a fly rod. The fishery itself is remote and undisturbed, supplying
some fantastic sport and this, combined with the service, scenery and superb cuisine, makes
Grand Bahama one of our most spectacular destinations. |

| GREAT INAGUA |
Inagua is a southern island sixty miles northeast of Cuba where large bones
cruise the white sand flats and large tarpon and permit maraud the shallow waters in search
of their prey.
There is an endless supply of crystal clear flats that can be fished easily by a poled skiff
or simply wading and stalking. The local guide is extremely knowledgeable and can put
you within casting range of bonefish and the illusive permit. Tarpon fishing generally
takes place at Lake Windsor where you will be able to try your luck for tarpon in the
20-60lb range. It is not uncommon to catch 8-10 big bonefish during a day's fishing
and you may well hook into a 'double digit' fish which have been known to be in excess of
14lbs.
If you are interested in birds Great Inagua is home to 80,000 West Indian flamingos. Matthew
Town is the island's main town. |
