|
 |
 |
| BEAVERHEAD RIVER |
| Beaverhead River holds large numbers of big brown trout. It is
ideally fished by wading, but private access is often required. Our experienced guides
can arrange this for you. |
| BIG HOLE RIVER |
| Big Hole River is one of the prettiest rivers in the west. It
passes through alpine valleys, steep walled canyons and wide open plains. The upper and
middle reaches are best fished by floating, but there is easy access for wading. The
lower river is more braided, easy to wade and offers small stream style fishing away from the
main channel. Bighorn River flows through an isolated part of southern Montana, it is
well known for brown trout, both in numbers and size. The fish are selective, exact
imitation is less important than presentation. Both nymph and dry fly fishing are good
from early spring to late autumn. Most anglers favour wading and use a boat to move from
one spot to another. |
| BITTEROOT |
| Bitteroot River is one of the best fly fishing streams in Montana,
its prolific hatches, mild weather and gin-clear water provide ideal conditions for the dry
fly purist. |
| BOULDER RIVER |
| Boulder River flows over a very rocky bed, through a spectacular
gorge with jagged rock formations, an arch of rock forming a natural bridge and a 70ft
waterfall. Brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout are found below the falls, rainbow and
cutthroat predominating. |
| FIREHOLE RIVER |
Firehole River is one of the finest in Montana and is fishable below
Upper Geyser Basin. The first mile below the Basin is considered excellent dry fly
water. It has selective trout, warm currents, tiny insects, a lava bottom, silt-filled
depressions and trailing weed beds. At the upper end of Midway Geyser Basin is Muleshoe
Bend, considered to be one of the best stretches. Above this point the river seems to
carry more brown and brook trout, whilst downstream it is mainly rainbows. Gallatin
River flows from Yellowstone National Park to the Missouri. The upper river flows from
the Park to Big Sky through a narrow canyon. If you are prepared to move away from the road
you will have the place to yourself and it is easy water to fish. Rainbow trout
predominate and the river is generally productive to nymph fishing with excellent dry fly
fishing from mid-August to mid-September. |
| MADISON RIVER |
| Madison River flows 80 miles from Quake Lake to the Missouri.
You will fish for browns, rainbows, cutthroats and whitefish. July and August is the
time for dry flies. Nymphs and streamer patterns are used in the autumn but there is often a
hatch of white mayflies late in the day during October. |
| YELLOWSTONE RIVER |
| Yellowstone River is the longest river in Montana and the best
known. Throughout its 700 mile journey it has not a single restriction. Within Montana,
trout fishing is concentrated along the upper 150 miles from Gardiner to Laurel - especially
between Gardiner and Livingston. It is a big river, 100 yards wide in places. It
is difficult to predict as imperceptible changes in the water level can affect the
fishing. Totally clear water can change quickly if there is a heavy rain storm in
Yellowstone National Park. It is a wonderful river for a float trip and a guide will add
enjoyment to your fishing day. For most of the year caddis flies and sculpin provide the
browns, rainbows and cutthroat with the majority of their diet. |
