| With 100 salmon rivers and countless rivers and lakes for trout fishing,
Iceland is the place that most fishermen wish to visit. Its internationally acclaimed
stock management programmes make good catches possible. The country is a unique
combination of a modern society with vast areas of unspoilt and sparsely populated
countryside. Fishermen, therefore, have a wide choice of places to fish with
comfortable lodges and facilities close at hand. All the main rivers can be reached by
road and/or frequent domestic air services. |
 |
| FISHING IN ICELAND |
|
| We offer fishing in the following areas: |
| Minnivallalaekur, Hrutafjardara,
Laxa in Adaldal, Laxa in Nesjum,
Breiddalsa, Grenlaekur, and Tungulaekur. |

people sharing one rod. If you wish to have the rod to yourself, this can be arranged
at a supplement. |

 |
| MINNIVALLALAEKUR |
| Trout |
Last season closed with a total of around 400 brown trout on this gorgeous
little river. It's a fair average, but is down on the huge total of 600 in 2003.
That's fishing and there will always be highs and lows, as all experienced anglers accept.
Minnivallalaekur is famous for producing wild trout between 10 and 16 lb each season.
The average weight throughout the season was still a respectable 3 lb plus. |
  |
| ACCOMMODATION |
| The new lodge, situated next to the river, proved very popular. It sits
on a bend in the river, right next to one of the best pools and with magnificent views to
Mt. Hekla in the distance. There are three twin-bedrooms, two bathrooms, a
well-equipped kitchen, dining room, sitting room, and veranda with a hotpot. The river
is let on a self-catering or fully serviced basis. |

| HRUTAFJARDARA |
| Salmon |
 The Hrutafjardara produced
630 salmon in 2004, exceeding the previous record catch of 536 in 1986. In those days
the river was fished with worm and sometimes fly, thus giving higher catches. In these
more enlightened times of fly-only, it is good to see the catch improving so dramatically.
The conditions last season varied from times of high water to weeks of drought. But in
spite of the prolonged low water the river held a good stock of fish throughout the
season. The Arctic char fishing was a little slower last season, possibly because
there were so many salmon to concentrate on, and rods accounted for 200. The quality
of the Hrutafjardara char is exceptional, and these fish have an average weight of 2 to 4
pounds. |

| LAXA IN NESJUM |
| Salmon |
 This intimate
two-rod river, at Hofn on the south coast, had a very good season with 208 salmon. The
record breaking season continues on our rivers, for Nesjum had never before produced more
than 130 fish. The catch was condensed into a 60-day period, because early July was
quiet due to the river having no water for fish to run. There was also the usual
substantial run of sea-trout at the end of the season.
A smolt-releasing programme has been in place for several years now, and is meant to enhance
the run of wild fish and bring the overall river stock to abundance. The programme is
working well and gives high hopes for the 2006. |

| LAXA IN ADALDAL (NES BEAT) |
| Salmon |
 The Nes and
Arnes beats of the Big Laxa produced close to 400 salmon last year. This is above the annual
average and in keeping with the whole rivers improvement in 2004.
These beats have what is probably the best 2SW salmon to grilse ratio in the country.
Over the grilse-dominated season last year the average weight was just under 10 lb; ten
salmon over 20 lb were landed; and there were dozens of fish in the 12 to 18 lb class.
Not many other rivers in Iceland can produce statistics like these.
The larger salmon usually run in July, when they can be taken tide-fresh. September is
often the best time to catch a trophy fish, as they become more aggressive and active in the
prelude to spawning time.
Last year the weeks at the beginning and end of the season produced good results, but the
September fishing was better than usual, and some of the best experienced in many years on
the river. |

| BREIDDALSA |
| Salmon |
 The Breiddalsa River goes
from strength to strength. The previous record was 412 fish caught in 1978. The
catch in 2004 was a terrific 701 salmon!
The pleasing aspect about last season was that the fish were present in numbers from the
opening week right to the end of the season. All groups got in on the action, and for
most of the season the river had a good enough volume for it not to be affected badly by
lack of rain.
We expect the season to be productive, given decent conditions, as the wild stocks look good
and the smolt-release programmes are going to plan. |
  |
| ACCOMMODATION |
| The new lodge is fabulous. Everything has been put into giving the
visiting anglers the maximum comfort needed after a good days fishing. Non-fishing
guests are able to relax and enjoy the surroundings in complete privacy. Many guests
remarked that they had never experienced such a fantastic fishing lodge, anywhere!
Placed near the banks of the river it offers spectacular views over the river and
surrounding high jacket mountain peaks across the valley. It has 8 double bedrooms,
including one master suite all with private bathrooms, TV and internet connections in every
room, Sauna and hot Jacuzzi, spacious sitting and dining room, including a feature
fireplace, with panoramic views |

| GRENLAEKUR |
| Sea Trout and Arctic Char |
Approximately 1,000 trout are generally landed each
season. The fish have been showing an increase in size, with char into double-figure
weights, and a good number of sea-trout in the 10 to 14 lb range. The Grenlaekur as a
sea-trout river is well documented in Iceland, and our beat is the best on the river.
More foreign anglers are waking up to the superb opportunities on offer here, especially for
the exciting prospect of the early summer char. These fish are often overlooked as a
sporting prospect and are a very noble challenge.
Imagine stalking fish of 3 to 6 lb, using upstream nymph in clear water, when accurate
casting is a must. These char are not suicidal, but once hooked fight furiously! |
  |

kitchen/dining room, sitting room, sauna and hot-pot. |
